The 1993 Copa de Oro was the first Copa de Oro, a football competition for South American clubs that won the previous year's Copa Libertadores de América, the Supercopa Sudamericana, the Copa CONMEBOL, and the Supercopa Masters.
The inaugural tournament was disputed between São Paulo, winners of the 1992 Copa Libertadores, Cruzeiro, winners of the 1992 Supercopa Sudamericana, Atlético Mineiro, winners of the 1992 Copa CONMEBOL, and Boca Juniors, winners of the 1992 Supercopa Masters). Boca Juniors won the inaugural season 4-1 on points as Carlos MacAllister scored the only goal of the final series. Sergio Daniel Martínez, top scorer of this year's Copa de Oro, scored the first goal of the tournament. He also became the first person to score a golden goal on a South American tournament. The semifinal series between Boca Juniors and São Paulo, consequently, became the first ever match-up in South America to be decided by such method.
